About Woodford Family Funeral Service

Woodford Family Funeral Service is a truly independent funeral service, owned and run by John and Gail Woodford, with part-time assistance and support from a team of caring, experienced and dedicated funeral professionals including their son, Jack and colleagues, Tony, Eric and Jodie.

John Woodford Dip.FD, joined the funeral profession in 1982, working for an independent funeral service in Guildford and Cranleigh, where he learned every aspect of the profession.

Gail Woodford Dip.FD, began her funeral career in 1985 at a firm in Chichester, where she had undertaken work experience at the age of 15. Both firms were taken over by a national organisation.

In 1988 Gail joined John working in Cranleigh and Guildford and, in the same year, they became professionally qualified, obtaining the National Association of Funeral Directors' Diploma.

In 2001 Gail took a break from funerals to pursue a career in the law, qualifying as a Legal Executive specialising in Wills and Probate, returning to the family funeral business in 2012.

John wished to return to the values and ethics of an independent funeral service and opened Woodford Family Funeral Service in Cranleigh in 2012.

Tony Goring Dip.SW, Dip.CFC, has been involved in the funeral profession at all levels since 2007. He is a former Social Worker, qualified Funeral Arranger, experienced Funeral Director and qualified Civil Funeral Celebrant, holding the Diploma from the Institute of Civil Funerals.

Jack Woodford BSc. (Hons), began his training to become a funeral director in 2021 and also undertook the responsibility of looking after our stone masonry service. Jack studied psychology at the University of Surrey, graduating in 2016.

John, Gail and Tony have lived and worked in Cranleigh and Guildford for many years and are active members of the local community.

Being a truly independent funeral service, the team at Woodfords offers a personal, responsive and flexible service, which is completely discreet and professional.
